Visiting Ohiopyle

Nestled in the Laurel Highlands of Southwestern Pennsylvania, Ohiopyle is surrounded by 20,000 acres of State Park lands, which offer an endless canopy of trees, winding streams and breathtaking waterfalls.

Local adventure

At the heart of Ohiopyle, adventure awaits. The Youghiogheny River rushes through the middle of town, providing plenty of whitewater for boaters and rafters of all skill levels.

In addition to whitewater activities, Ohiopyle has hiking and rock climbing, as well as biking on the Great Allegheny Passage, a bike corridor stretching from Pittsburgh to Washington, D.C.

Cavers can find what they're looking for at nearby Laurel Caverns, less than 17 miles southwest of Ohiopyle.

Local culture

Approximately three miles in either direction will take you to one of two historic Frank Lloyd Wright-designed homes: Kentuck Knob to our west, and his world famous masterpiece, Fallingwater, just northeast of Ohiopyle on Route 381.

About ten miles from Ohiopyle, Touchstone Center for Crafts nestles in the woods of Farmington as Pennsylvania's only residential crafts school, open three seasons every year.

Near Chalk Hill and a few hundred yards off Route 40, you can tour, taste and browse the award-winning wines of the Christian W. Klay Winery.

Local history

Approximately ten miles from Ohiopyle you'll find Route 40, part of the historic National Road, which includes Searight's Tollhouse, erected in 1835 to collect the road's tolls.

Fort Necessity National Battlefield, part of the National Park Service, sits less than eight miles to Ohiopyle's southwest, along with Braddock's Grave, both near Farmington, Pennsylvania.
